Filling out a Hazardous Waste Label

  • Any container that holds hazardous waste MUST be properly labeled as hazardous waste. This requirement is most commonly satisfied through the use of hazardous waste labels

  • Labels can either be made, or they can be purchased at most safety supply stores. Click Here to view an example of a Hazardous Waste sticker.

  • The most important information to be included on the label is:
    - The words, "HAZARDOUS WASTE";
    - The waste accumulation start date;
    - The phase and composition of the waste (e.g., liquid pesticide);
    - Declaration of any particular toxic or hazardous properties (e.g., flammability, strong oxidizer, etc.);
    - Name and address of waste-generating facility.
