RUBICON TRAIL CONDITIONS
Currently, updated April 16, 2012, the trail conditions are:
Loon trailhead: Last week's snow still hasn't settled, so pushing the heavy wet stuff most of the time. The weather has cooled off, but the holes remain...water moving and big holes between the drifts. Please use a winch BEFORE you spin tires, especially in the transition from roadbed to snow. Front and rear lockers, big tires, low air pressure, winches, and groups of two or more capable rigs are the best plan. Don't go expecting to make a destination, this may stop you!
Wentworth Springs trailhead: Same as Loon, pretty big sidehills on the flat portions of the road below postpile.
Tahoe trailhead: About 6 to 10 feet of snow with good coverage, the snow is powdery again with a firm base and the drifts are big. Again, please use a winch BEFORE you spin tires, especially in the transition from roadbed to snow.
