On 1-26-12 at 6:30 pm, El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2700 block of Morts Ct. in Placerville to investigate a residential burglary. An unknown suspect or suspects had forced open a locked window and entered the residence. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole video gaming systems, video games, a compound bow, pellet rifle and jewelry.
On 1-31-12, five days after the first burglary, the same residence was again burglarized. During that burglary, the suspect(s) stole an old coin collection, a Redbox movie, prescription medication, an IPOD docking station radio and a roll of tin foil. There were no suspect(s) leads or evidence recovered.
Detectives began an investigation targeting known burglars in the area. They also began checking area pawn shops, gold stores and second hand stores. Through this investigation, Detectives identified Travis Cunha, 20 years old, resident of Pollock Pines as being responsible for the burglary. Detectives prepared an arrest warrant for Cunha as well as a search warrant for his residence in Pollock Pines.
On 2-9-12 Detectives and Special Enforcement Detail deputies served the arrest and search warrant at Cunha's residence. Upon entry into the house, Cunha was taken into custody without incident and is currently in custody on $250,000.00 bail. A majority of the property was recovered inside Cunha's bedroom. Some items had already been sold to friends and associates and have not been located. Detectives are continuing the investigation and are confident they will recover the missing property.
