El Dorado County has now developed an enhanced response for emergency incidents that involve the release of chemical nerve agents or organophosphate pesticides. Quickly debilitating and often lethal, these compounds require rapid intervention by first responders and hospital staff to reverse the multiple effects that result from exposure. Caches of pre-packaged antidotes known as "CHEMPACK" developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have now been placed at strategic locations in our county for rapid deployment to such an emergency. For security reasons, the exact locations are not published. The EMS Agency, along with our healthcare partners, has also developed a training program and response plan for a release of nerve agents or pesticides that may result from a terrorist act.
