The Adult Protective Services (APS) program
is supervised by the California Department of Social Services and
administered locally by the El Dorado County Department of Community
Services. It provides assistance to elderly and dependent adults
who are functionally impaired, unable to meet their own needs or
are victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation.
Program Activities
El Dorado County APS receives reports of
abuse and neglect of elderly and dependent adults, residing in their
own homes, for investigation and evaluation of their need for protection
and /or services. APS provides and/or coordinates support services
for both emergency situations and longer-term case management.
Reporting Requirements
Any mandated reporter who has observed,
has knowledge of, or is told by an elder or dependent adult of any
incident of abuse or neglect shall report the suspected instance
or neglect by telephone immediately or as soon as practically possible,
and shall follow up with a written report within two (2) working
days [Welfare and Institutions code 15630].
Failure of a mandated reporter to report
suspected abuse is a misdemeanor [Welfare and Institutions code
1563(h)].
