Finding Help in a Crisis:
Are you, a friend or a loved one in a crisis where help is needed immediately?
To determine if this is a crisis, answer these questions honestly:
Have I, my friend, or a loved one...
- Been thinking about, talking about, actively planning or attempting suicide?
- Been unable to manage basic self care, such as eating, bathing or dressing?
- Been in, or currently in, a dangerous abusive situation? If children are involved, are they in danger?
- Exhibited bizarre behavior, heard voices, seen things that aren't there or expressed uncontrollable anger?
- Abused alcohol or drugs to a degree that causes imminent danger?
- If you have answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, call any of the resources listed below:

Friendly Visitors Program:
What is the Friendly Visitors Program of El Dorado County?
The Friendly Visitor Program recruits and matches volunteers with homebound senior citizens who would benefit from companionship and friendship. Typically, Friendly Visitor volunteers stop by the home of a senior weekly for about an hour visit. While visiting, they do what friends do…talk, share stories, take walks, play cards, or enjoy other interests together. The Friendly Visitors Program is a free, voluntary program for El Dorado County seniors.
How do I become a Friendly Visitor Volunteer?
The first step is calling or emailing the Friendly Visitors Volunteer Coordinator at 530-621-6167 or darlene.bratton@edcgov.us and requesting a Friendly Visitors Volunteer application. Before being matched with a senior citizen, all volunteers receive training provided by the program and pass a background check.
