Description of Direct Services and Contracted Services

Direct Services

AIDS / HIV Education & Prevention Program
This program develops and implements education and prevention activities for use with at-risk populations, such as incarcerated individuals, sexually active adults and youth, substance users, and youth outside mainstream education. Activities include educational presentations, confidential testing and counseling, and outreach services.

Alcohol & Drug Prevention Programs
The Alcohol & Drug Prevention Program includes the following services: community educational programs and trainings; drug-free workplace education and technical support to businesses, school districts, and health agencies; participation on school-site student assistance boards and health committees; coordination of awareness campaigns; and the reduction of the sale and advertising of alcohol products to minors.

Court Programs
El Dorado County Alcohol and Drug Programs coordinates with other agencies in the county to offer numerous court programs.

Friday Night Live/Club Live
This program supports youth in being free of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs through increasing knowledge and building assets among teens. Staff provides technical assistance and leadership to high schools and middle schools in establishing Friday Night Life/Club Live on campus.

Teen Youth Court
Teen Youth Court is a diversion program of the juvenile court, where juvenile offenders choose to be judged and sentenced by their peers after admitting to committing offenses. The program is a collaborative effort between Public Health, the Probation Department, District Attorney, Sheriffs Department, and Superior Court. Students recruited from high schools serve as jurors, prosecutors, defense attorneys, bailiffs, and court clerks. Adult attorneys from the community serve as mentors to the youth attorneys, and a Superior Court Judge presides over the hearings. Sentences recommended by the juries include supportive and punitive measures.
