As a landlord how do I evict a tenant?
Begin with the proper forms ( 3-day Pay or Quit or 30 day Notice to Vacate) from any stationary store. It may also be helpful to pick up a reference guide on how to properly process these forms. It may be necessary to take court action if the issue is not resolved. A Deputy Sheriff will perform an eviction only after a court order and writ has been issued.
Someone owes me money. How can I collect?
The collection process must begin with court action - Small Claims Court for claims $5,000 and less and Civil Court for claims in excess of $5,000.
I have a judgment against an individual or entity, how can I collect?
The first step after obtaining a judgment is to obtain a Writ from the court authorizing the Sheriff to take action. There are several methods to collect a judgment with the Sheriff's assistance.

My wages are being attached. How can I reduce or stop the garnishment?
A "Claim of Exemption" form 982.5(5) must be filed with the Sheriff's Civil Section. The form is available at the Sheriff's Office, 300 Fair Lane, Placerville or online at Judicial Council of California website.
My bank account has been levied. How can I contest this?
A "Claim of Exemption" form EJ-160 must be filed with the Sheriff's Civil Section within 20 days of notice of levy. The form is available at the Sheriff's Office, 300 Fair Lane, Placerville or online at Judicial Council of California website.
